Saw these guys in '87 , Richard Marx opened for them. It was a really fun concert. They're a good band. I would say they needed a better video concept and director lol.

The members of the group were not crazy about this song despite it being a big hit. They referred to it as "That stupid ballad"

Phil and Sam, you have to watch Leo playing in the New York subway with the other lads from Too Many Zoos. They are all very, very talented but pay particular attention to the black man playing drum and percussion. I can tell you this: if it was me playing drums like that for an hour, I would have back pain for a week at least.

Sometimes you can't put too much credence behind the meaning of a music video. Often the videos are the vision of the director, and not necessarily what the band intended. I refer you to Steve Perry's "Oh Sherrie" video, which is a perfect example of how an artist can be pressured into doing a music video that doesn't tie with their song, but gets pressured by the record company or his / her / their agent / management to hire a specific director based on past success. In the Steve Perry video, Steve puts his foot down and walks out. But the example remains. Sometimes, through no fault of the artist, the music just doesn't tie in to what they are trying to say. That said, this is a straight forward love song. It's about a two people that started out as friends and the guy realizes that the feelings for him are much deeper, yet he is still afraid to express his feelings: What started out as friendship has grown stronger, I only wish I had the strength to let it show I tell myself that I can't hold out forever I say that there is no reason for my fear 'cause I feel so secure when we're together You give my life direction you make everything so clear...

This song comes from his 52nd St album. Another great song from this album is Zanzibar. For me The Stranger and 52nd St are my favorite albums of Billy's.

REO Speedwagon has a deep catalog of these ballads and they are all great. Far to many to list. But they also have a few songs that aren't so soft. Check out Roll With The Changes (my favorite) and Riding The Storm Out. Both are great.
